About the position

The Special Education ICS Teacher at Crosby Middle School is responsible for providing tailored educational experiences to special education students, fostering their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. This role involves developing and modifying curricula, preparing instructional materials, and collaborating with various stakeholders to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs). The teacher will work in a self-contained or itinerant capacity, ensuring that students receive the support they need to succeed academically and socially.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop IEPs through the ARD Committee process.
  • Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs for assigned students.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies and materials that reflect understanding of students' learning styles.
  • Work with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula for special education students.
  • Participate in ARD Committee meetings regularly.
  • Conduct assessments of student learning styles to inform instructional planning.
  • Present subject matter according to IEP guidelines.
  • Employ various instructional techniques and media to meet student needs.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Use technology effectively in the teaching/learning process.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through testing.
  • Provide personal care and medical assistance as stated in IEPs.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment for learning.
  • Manage student behavior and administer discipline as necessary.
  • Consult with teachers and outside resources regarding student needs.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements.
  • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area.
  • Familiarity with the ARD Committee process and IEP goal setting.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship experience.
