About the position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position involves providing direct resident care under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel. The role focuses on promoting a compassionate environment for residents while performing essential duties such as personal care, monitoring vital signs, and assisting with daily activities. The CNA is expected to work collaboratively with other staff to ensure the well-being and comfort of residents in a long-term care facility.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care (grooming, bathing, dressing, oral care) for residents daily and as needed.
  • Change bed linen and maintain grooming supplies in resident rooms regularly.
  • Ambulate and transfer residents using appropriate assistive devices and body mechanics.
  • Record resident vital signs, weights, measurements, intake and output, and food consumption as assigned.
  • Routinely turn and position residents as necessary.
  • Observe residents and report changes in condition to the Charge Nurse.
  • Support residents' ability to make choices within the caregiving environment.
  • Participate in collecting data for the MDS and the plan of care, providing input to nurses.
  • Ensure adequate hydration for residents at regular intervals according to their needs.
  • Prepare residents for meals and assist those who cannot feed themselves.
  • Maintain established housekeeping standards within assigned areas.
  • Assist nursing staff with aseptic and sterile techniques to avoid infections.
  • Monitor proper ventilation, temperature, light, and noise control.
  • Promptly answer call lights and other resident needs.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics when lifting or transporting residents.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of other staff as requested.
  • Attend in-service education programs to meet facility educational requirements.
  • Familiarize with Standard Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, and Fire Drill & Evacuation Procedures.
  • Protect residents from neglect, mistreatment, and abuse.
  • Adhere to attendance standards as per the Attendance Policy.

Requirements

  • Current Nursing Assistant Certification from the state (for certified CNAs).
  • Maintain CPR Certification.
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Organized and detail-oriented in work performance.
  • Good communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience.
  • Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility.
  • Comply with Resident Rights and Facility Policies and Procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Currently attending a CNA class working toward certification (for non-certified CNAs).
