About the position

The CNA I - Unit Secretary position at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center is a vital role within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This position is designed for individuals who are certified nursing assistants and possess a strong understanding of medical terminology and hospital procedures. The primary responsibilities include performing secretarial duties that support the efficient operation of the unit, such as scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and processing physician orders. The role requires a commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant environment, adhering to the policies and procedures set forth by Northern Light Health. In this role, you will coordinate various activities within the assigned unit, ensuring that patient records are accurately assembled and filed. You will also be responsible for transcribing physician orders, flagging charts appropriately, and entering orders into the computer system. Additionally, the position involves coordinating the safe transport of patients and other items as directed by the medical staff. The CNA I - Unit Secretary is expected to take ownership of their professional development and contribute to a culture of accountability and respect within the team. The work schedule for this position is variable, with hours typically from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. As part of the onboarding process, new hires are eligible for a sign-on bonus of $500, which is contingent upon a commitment to work for Northern Light EMMC for one year. This role not only requires technical skills but also emphasizes the importance of compassion and integrity in providing care to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates assigned unit activities.
  • Manages patient records (e.g. assembles patient records, files patient information, etc.).
  • Processes physician orders (e.g. transcribes physician's orders, flags charts appropriately, enters orders into computer).
  • Coordinates the safe transport of patients and other items as directed.
  • Accepts responsibility for further developing professional learning needs.
  • Maintains a safe environment complying with Northern Light Health policies and procedures; reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.
  • May perform other duties upon request.

Requirements

  • Required Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
  • Required High School Diploma/General Educational Development (GED).

Benefits

  • Sign-on bonus of $500 after 90 days of employment, subject to tax.
