About the position

The primary purpose of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position is to provide routine daily nursing care and services to assigned residents in accordance with their individual assessments and care plans. It is imperative that the CNA adheres to established protocols for recording information, using only authorized abbreviations, and promptly reporting any changes in residents' conditions to the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse. The role also involves maintaining accurate records on flow sheets, notes, and charts, ensuring that all entries are informative and descriptive. The CNA will play a vital role in creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for residents. This includes preparing residents' rooms for their arrival, greeting them, and introducing them to their roommates and other staff members. The CNA will assist residents with their personal belongings, ensuring that their possessions are inventoried and stored appropriately. Additionally, the CNA will be responsible for transporting residents as needed and assisting with their personal care needs, including monitoring their food and fluid intake. A key aspect of this role is to foster a warm and positive atmosphere within the unit, addressing any complaints or grievances from residents and participating in regular nursing reports to improve service quality. The CNA will also follow established policies regarding exposure to blood and body fluids, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment. Responsibilities

  • Provide routine daily nursing care and services to assigned residents according to their care plans.
  • Identify residents using wristbands or photo card files before administering treatments or serving meals.
  • Record all entries on flow sheets, notes, and charts in an informative and descriptive manner.
  • Report changes in residents' conditions to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse promptly.
  • Ensure residents' rooms are ready for receiving them, including making beds and preparing admission kits.
  • Greet residents and escort them to their rooms, introducing them to their roommates and staff.
  • Assist residents with packing personal possessions during transfers or discharges.
  • Transport residents to new rooms or receiving areas as necessary.
  • Create and maintain a warm and positive atmosphere throughout the unit.
  • Participate in nursing reports and assist in identifying areas for service improvement.
  • Measure and record residents' vital signs as instructed, including temperatures, pulses, and respirations.
  • Check on residents frequently to ensure their personal care needs are met.

Requirements

  • Must be a certified nursing assistant with appropriate training and certification.
  • Ability to follow established protocols and procedures for resident care.
  • Strong communication skills to report changes in residents' conditions effectively.
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor when interacting with residents.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding residents' protected health information.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a long-term care or rehabilitation facility is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and nursing procedures.
