Responsibilities

  • Perform routine basic patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification or registration and as required by Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Under the direction of an RN/LPN, provide care and treatment appropriate to the age of patients served as detailed and determined through the unit specific Scope of Care, Competency/Skills Checklists, Equipment Skills Matrix and Inservice Training.
  • Receive report and/or make rounds on each assigned patient with the registered nurse/licensed personnel.
  • Report observations to the team leaders; i.e., patient complaints, patient behavior or appearance, family complaints.
  • Report completeness of assigned tasks to the registered nurse at end of shift and, as necessary, otherwise.
  • Provide input into the nursing plan of care.
  • Perform and complete assigned tasks accurately. Assist licensed personnel in the delivery of patient care.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe patient and unit environment.
  • Complete unit environmental tasks as assigned.
  • Verbalize and carry out Disaster and Fire Regulations and procedures.
  • Carry out Universal Precautions.
  • Report unsafe equipment or practice immediately to appropriate personnel.
  • Display initiative and maintain proficiency in patient care procedures.
  • Participate in patient care conferences, staff meetings and nursing committees.
  • Follow documented policy and procedure in the delivery of patient care.
  • Assist other unit members without being asked when own work is complete.
  • Perform tasks appropriate for the skill level and educational preparation.
  • Attend in-service classes, as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Registry on the board of nursing as a Certified Nurse Aide.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart 'healthcare provider' (HCP) - AHA approved.
  • New hires must have AHA appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.
  • Must understand basic principles of human growth and development.
  • Must have a reliable means of phone communication with the hospital.
