The CNC Machine Operator A applies advanced technical skills and knowledge to program and operate multi-purpose numerically controlled machines to perform defined combinations of machining operations. This position requires performing tasks that are moderate to complex, requiring experience and judgment to complete. The operator reviews setup sheets and specifications to determine setup procedures, machining sequences, and dimensions of the finished work piece. They are responsible for attaching fixtures to the machine bed and positioning and securing work pieces according to setup instructions. The operator assembles cutting tools in tool holders, enters commands to retrieve pre-programmed machine instructions, and operates controls to index cutting tools and start the machine. They must observe and listen to machine operations to detect malfunctions and make necessary adjustments to ensure conformance to specifications.
