About the position

As a CNC Machine Operator at Lockheed Martin's Archbald facility, you will play a crucial role in the manufacturing process, focusing on the operation of CNC machines to produce high-quality parts for defense and commercial applications. This position involves interpreting CAD data, setting up machines, and ensuring that production meets stringent quality standards while contributing to a mission that supports national security.

Responsibilities

  • Follow instructions to machine, fabricate, or assemble parts to specifications using conventional and CNC machines.
  • Pre-set and install proper cutting tools, selecting appropriate speeds, feeds, and depth of cut to maintain quality standards.
  • Inspect cutting tools for wear and make adjustments during production runs as required.
  • Interpret CAD data, prints, and sketches, following written and/or verbal instructions for fabrication.
  • Perform secondary operations during the machine cycle such as deburring and straightening.
  • Inspect parts using standard gages and measuring devices to ensure conformity to specifications.
  • Perform minor preventive maintenance on equipment and maintain coolant levels.
  • Provide cross-training for other tasks related to department functions and procedures when assigned.
  • Recommend and execute changes to achieve process improvements and cycle time reductions.
  • Select and load proper CNC programs in machine control for proper operation.
  • Verify gages and inspection equipment are correct and appropriate for the task.
  • Verify NC code during execution of setup and edit CNC programs.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience or equivalent education with specialized training in CNC operations.
  • Knowledge of basic shop math including metric conversion and arithmetic.
  • Experience as a CNC operator in a cellular manufacturing operation.
  • Experience working with steel, aluminum, and stainless steel, with knowledge of machining speeds and feeds.
  • Proficient in using measuring equipment to verify conformance of machined work pieces to specifications.
  • Knowledge of M & G code for editing and troubleshooting CNC programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in setup and operation of CNC horizontal and vertical machining centers and lathes.
  • Experience pre-setting cutting tools and setting up fixtures in machines.
  • Proficient with editing CNC programs and using FANUC controls.
  • Experience programming with GibbsCAM.
  • Experience with Solid Modeling.
  • Ability to perform complex calculations related to machining.
