About the position

The CNC Machinist position at General Dynamics Land Systems involves performing various machining operations to produce components for military equipment, specifically the Abrams Main Battle Tank and the Stryker Family of Wheeled Combat Vehicles. The role requires skilled machinists to operate CNC machines, troubleshoot machining issues, and ensure high-quality production standards. The position is based in Scranton, PA, and is a full-time, on-site role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various machining operations such as turning, facing, boring, threading, drilling, reaming, tapping, and contouring.
  • Enter revisions of programmed dimensions, feed rates, spindle speeds, etc. on machine console.
  • Run multiple machines at a work center while managing production rates.
  • Operate and understand measuring instruments like height gages, micrometers, and calipers.
  • Preset tools using optical tool setters, gauges, or fixtures and calibrate tool-setting equipment as necessary.
  • Oversee the entire machining operation, identifying and correcting machining problems.
  • Maintain tooling for the machine and ensure proper tool changing procedures are followed.
  • Clean and lubricate drilled holes during machining processes and check critical part dimensions.
  • Utilize gauges and measuring devices at the end of machining cycles.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Technical Training/Certification from a licensed Technical or Trade School, preferably in Machining or 6 months experience; 1-2 years preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced manufacturing skill set preferred, but candidates with a basic skill set will also be considered.
  • Strong desire to contribute ideas and learn new skills.
  • High mechanical aptitude and good communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, team player, strong work ethic, and desire to grow career.
  • Must be a US Person (legal permanent resident of USA).

  • Experience with CNC programming and operation.
