About the position

The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating various types of machines, including conventional and numerical control (NC) machines, to fabricate both metallic and nonmetallic parts. This role involves interpreting technical drawings, selecting appropriate tools, and ensuring the accuracy of machined components through careful monitoring and adjustments during the machining process.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets and understands blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on materials or work pieces as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.
  • Enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media (CNC).
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work pieces to specifications.
  • Sets up and operates machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School/GED or Technical school education.
  • One to two years of related experience required.
  • Minimum two years' experience and/or demonstrated mastery as a Machinist I required for advancement into Machinist II position.
  • Ability to follow safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Demonstrate math proficiency as it relates to this job.
