About the position

The CNC Operator is responsible for the advanced set-up and operation of CNC machines, ensuring precision and efficiency in manufacturing high-performance thermoplastic materials. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of CNC programming, tool geometry, and quality control procedures, with a focus on maximizing production output while adhering to safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Advanced set-up & operation of CNC machines per set-up sheets & work instructions.
  • Verify and edit programs as required.
  • Calculate speeds and feeds for machining processes.
  • Determine tooling requirements and establish tool offsets using a tool setter.
  • Create programs using Haas VPS (Visual Programming System).
  • Setup work origin using WIPS (Wireless Intuitive Probing System).
  • Download/upload all programs efficiently.
  • Operate CNC in manual mode as required.
  • Adjust machine feeds & speeds to provide acceptable finishes & tolerances.
  • Utilize optical comparator for set-up confirmation.
  • Determine material requirements to maximize yield.
  • Design & fabricate vacuum plates/fixtures.
  • Deburr & clean finished parts.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and review production orders for accuracy.
  • Collect & segregate recyclable/dumpster scrap appropriately.
  • Perform housekeeping and follow safety guidelines.
  • Assist maintenance technicians with machine troubleshooting.
  • Perform ERP system transactions accurately.
  • Utilize fork truck and overhead crane for material handling.
  • Perform quality control checks on work in-process & final inspection.
  • Understand ISO procedures and recognize production procedures.

Requirements

  • Technical School Certificate or Diploma preferred.
  • 3-5 years CNC operation & set-up experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of G & M codes.
  • Excellent blueprint reading/interpretation skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to operate a forklift and complete in-house certification.
  • History of safe working behavior.
  • Demonstrated measurement skills with above-average accuracy.
  • Sound understanding of quality control procedures.
  • Solid math skills and advanced knowledge of tool geometry.
  • Ability to perform program modifications and create programs using Haas VPS.
  • AutoCAD experience preferred.
  • SurfCam programming software skills preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and good communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills, assist and train other operators, and attention to detail.
