About the position

The CNC Operator at Drake-Williams Steel is responsible for fabricating parts for structural fabrication and various steel assemblies according to specified cutting lists and shop drawings. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to quality standards, and the ability to operate various machinery safely and effectively. The position offers a hiring bonus and is focused on ensuring accurate dimensions and quality in the fabrication process.

Responsibilities

• Identify steel shapes, sizes, and mill tolerances.
• Fabricate material as trained and instructed.
• Fabricate beams, tubes, angle, channel, bar grating, pipe, plate, or rounds according to dimensions on cut lists and shop drawings.
• Make adjustments to machines to ensure accurate dimensions as shown on shop drawings.
• Identify cut list and shop drawing errors and discrepancies before or during early stages of fabrication.
• Operate forklifts, jib cranes, overhead cranes, conveyors, and transfers to move materials.
• Attend all meetings as required by management.
• Consistently and reliably work scheduled hours at assigned locations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of six months of experience in a steel manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read, write, and perform higher arithmetic computations.
• Ability to understand and carry out semi-complicated verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
• Skill in using auto measurer, tape measure, or rule.
• Ability to interpret, understand, and utilize cutting lists, shop orders, and shop drawings.
• Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes safely.

Nice-to-haves

• Ability to pass a Drake-Williams Steel administered test covering shop drawing interpretation and basic geometry.
• Ability to perform minor mechanical tasks on machines.
