About the position
Flowserve is seeking a Machinist for its manufacturing facility in Taneytown, MD. The role involves setting up and operating manual lathes and CNC machines, with a focus on precision machining and safety. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing, capable of working with tight tolerances and various measuring instruments. This position is essential for maintaining the high standards of quality and efficiency in the production of flow control systems.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual lathes and CNC machines for machining castings.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all tooling and machinery are in safe working condition.
- Accurately machine parts to within a +/- .001 tolerance, interpreting blueprints and geometric tolerances.
- Utilize precision measuring equipment to ensure quality standards are met.
- Operate jib and overhead cranes safely to lift large castings.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and complete required safety training.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of machining experience in a manufacturing or repair environment.
- Proficiency in operating manual lathes, milling machines, and CNC lathes/mills.
- Experience using and interpreting precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and dial indicators.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and geometric tolerances.
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to work in a Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) environment.
- Ability to follow complex verbal and written instructions.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, perform repetitive motions, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Nice-to-haves
- Machinist certification, training, or degree related to machining.
- Experience in a high mix, low volume manufacturing environment.
- Forklift certification.
