About the position

The CNC Programmer Machinist is responsible for programming and operating various CNC machines to fabricate component parts from raw materials. This role involves working from technical drawings and specifications to ensure precision in machining operations. The position requires advanced knowledge of machining techniques, programming skills, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently. The CNC Programmer Machinist plays a critical role in ensuring the efficiency and quality of production processes.

Responsibilities

  • Program various CNC work centers to fabricate component parts to engineering specifications.
  • Install and adjust tooling and fixtures in work centers based on drawings and instructions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to machining operations, tools, and CNC programs.
  • Perform secondary machining operations as required.
  • Analyze component parts to determine efficient machining operations for production.
  • Load and adjust computer programs in CNC work centers, modifying as necessary.
  • Process first pieces through initial runs, making critical adjustments to tooling and programs.
  • Operate and monitor work centers for progressive machining operations such as turning, boring, and drilling.
  • Fabricate simple holding fixtures for machining as needed.
  • Inspect parts for dimensions and surface imperfections before production.
  • Collaborate with engineering and supervisory personnel to resolve design and operational difficulties.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance duties.
  • Assist in training lower-level machinists and review completed work assignments.

Requirements

  • AAS Degree in Machine Technology preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of CNC programming experience or ten years of manual machining experience required.
  • Proficient in CNC programming with controls such as Mazatrol and Fanuc.
  • Competent in using modeling software like Esprit, MasterCam, Cad Cam, and Smart Cam.
  • Expertise in operating multiple axis/spindle machines.
  • Broad knowledge of machining techniques and advanced setup operations.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience in leading process improvement and cost reduction initiatives.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with CMM operations is preferred.
  • Cutting tool fabrication experience.
