General Dynamics Land Systems is a global leader in the design, development, production, support, and sustainment of tracked and wheeled military equipment, specifically the Abrams Main Battle Tank and the Stryker Family of Wheeled Combat Vehicles. In this position, you will be responsible for supporting all production processes and creating new production processes. This role offers the opportunity to maintain and improve established processes as well as work on prototype projects prior to production. Working within a set budget is critical to the success of this position. As a CNC Programmer - Tool / Manufacturing Engineer, you will be expected to access and navigate DNC software to load programs into CNC machines, as well as utilize Oracle to find tooling and components. You will also need to access the computer system to locate part and assembly drawings. The role requires the creation of basic Microsoft Excel spreadsheets with formulas and PowerPoint presentations, along with effective communication of progress and obstacles via email. Additionally, you will be responsible for writing work instructions, developing and establishing manufacturing processes primarily focused on machining, and designing work holding devices in 3D CAD. Your responsibilities will also include creating 2D drawings from 3D models, selecting tooling, feeds, and speeds for machining various materials such as aluminum and armor, and writing CNC machine tool programs in a CAM system for 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 axis machines. Establishing assembly processes and procedures, implementing continuous improvement ideas, and performing other duties as required will also be part of your role. The systems used at GDLS Scranton include PTC Creo 5 for 3D modeling and 2D drawings, Predator for DNC storage and communication, Oracle for business software, Gibbs CAM for CNC programming, and HMS CAPP for work instructions, along with Microsoft Office tools for documentation and communication.
