About the position

The CNC Programmer at Howmet Aerospace is responsible for the development and implementation of CNC programming within manufacturing operations to meet production requirements and cost efficiency. This role emphasizes process definition, technical support for tooling, work instructions, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities to ensure high-quality manufacturing outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain various machining CNC programs for 3/4/5 axis grinding and milling machines.
  • Optimize programs to meet customer design criteria and manufacturing cadence.
  • Manage programming library and revisions, and oversee ISO and customer software audits.
  • Conduct time studies to balance and define operator standard work.
  • Generate standard work charts and process capacity tables, comparing actual performance to quoted estimates.
  • Troubleshoot and improve operations related to fixturing, CNC programs, and tooling issues.
  • Utilize SPC charts and process capability methods to increase first-time yields.
  • Support capital projects initiatives for new equipment and collaborate with customers and machine manufacturers.
  • Identify gaps in shop floor performance using QSI (P&L data) and implement method improvements.
  • Assist in cost estimating for repeat production jobs and new product introductions.
  • Support Engineering and Operations in resolving technical issues with customers and suppliers.
  • Conduct research and analysis for equipment procurement justification.
  • Actively participate in Continuous Improvement events and initiatives.
  • Provide technical support to shop floor personnel.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5 years of programming experience required.
  • Minimum 5 years in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Preferred experience in a technical field.
