About the position

The CNC Set-Up Specialist at Snap-on Inc. is responsible for setting up CNC equipment, training operators, and ensuring optimal productivity in CNC operations. This role involves conducting inspections, troubleshooting production issues, and supporting material activities. The specialist plays a crucial role in maintaining equipment, reducing set-up and cycle times, and monitoring operator output to meet production standards. This position is essential for driving process improvements and ensuring safety in the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Set up CNC equipment and conduct first and last article inspections.
  • Train and support CNC operators to maximize productivity.
  • Perform in-process quality inspections and troubleshoot production-related problems.
  • Drive production process improvements by reducing set-up times and increasing outputs.
  • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools and work pieces on machines using precision measuring instruments.
  • Stop machines to remove finished work pieces or change tooling as required.
  • Ensure proper lubrication and cooling of work pieces during operation.
  • Calculate dimensions or tolerances using instruments such as micrometers.
  • Machine parts to specifications using various machine tools.

Requirements

  • Must pass standard hands-on assessment and CNC Operator test with a score of at least 80%.
  • 3 years of experience as a CNC Operator with the ability to complete own setups on CNC machines.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and use precision measuring devices.
  • Experience operating various machines including side loaders and forklifts.
  • Mechanical aptitude with a variety of machines and advanced shop math skills.
  • Understanding of Snap-on's Quality Management system and shop safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.

Nice-to-haves

  • Machine Tool Technology Degree or comparable experience (at least 5 years).
