About the position

The CNC Operator position at Snap-on Tools involves setting up and operating CNC equipment, training and supporting operators, and ensuring quality control through inspections. The role is critical in maintaining productivity and efficiency in the production process while adhering to safety standards. The position is available for both second and third shifts, requiring a commitment to a structured work schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in instilling a zero tolerance for unsafe conditions and/or unsafe acts.
  • Support CNC operations to achieve maximum productivity by performing technically intensive changeovers.
  • Provide CNC operator support via training, materials, productivity monitoring, and feedback.
  • Troubleshoot production related problems.
  • Assist in-process quality inspections.
  • Run production when not providing one of the above.
  • Drive production process improvements through reduced set-up times, increased outputs, and improved first pass yields.
  • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Stop machines to remove finished work pieces or to change tooling, setup, or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences.
  • Check to ensure that work pieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
  • Calculate dimensions or tolerances, using instruments, such as micrometers.
  • Machine parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specification, using precision instruments, such as micrometers.
  • Use effective and respectful communication style to support operators in finding ways to improve productivity, quality, efficiencies, and safety.

Requirements

  • Must pass standard hands-on assessment to be considered for this position.
  • Must pass the CNC Operator test with a score of at least 80%.
  • 3 years' experience as a CNC Operator including completing own setups on CNC machines.
  • Demonstrated history of a positive attitude and good teamwork skills.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, and use precision measuring devices.
  • Able to operate various machines including side loader and forklifts.
  • Must be able to identify, locate, and use various tools that they may need to load into the machine.
  • Mechanical aptitude in working with a variety of machines.
  • Understanding of Snap-on's Quality Management system.
  • Understanding of shop safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Snap-on's 'Who We Are'.
  • Must be a problem solver to troubleshoot the machine if something goes wrong.
  • Understands CNC machines that they are working on and knows its capabilities and limitations.
  • Possess a continuous improvement mindset.
  • All candidates must be at least 18 years of age or older, and possess excellent English speaking, writing, and reading skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Machine Tool Technology Degree or comparable experience (at least 5 years).
