About the position

The CNC Set Up Machinist at Primus Aerospace plays a crucial role in supporting manufacturing operations by ensuring compliance with quality systems and customer specifications. This position involves setting up CNC Mills and Lathes, verifying production expectations, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The role emphasizes collaboration with programming and operations teams to achieve production objectives while fostering a culture of employee engagement and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up CNC Mills and/or Lathes
  • Confirming proper router and drawing to correct revision
  • Reviewing program specifications to determine the sequence of set-up operations and dimensions of finished product
  • Establishing a strong and reliable set-up for operators to follow
  • Filling out the proper instructions for the operator to follow
  • Verifying/meeting expected cycle times and production expectations daily
  • Keeping scrap to a minimum of 2%
  • Validating part quality through IPIC chart completion and verification
  • Ensuring tooling/back-up tooling is adequate
  • Maintaining organization/cleanliness of work areas including support of a 5S program
  • Working in close collaboration with programming and operations teams
  • Supporting a culture of employee engagement, team success, accountability, and buy-in of company objectives
  • Performing other duties as assigned to help further the company's production objectives.

Requirements

  • Ability to set up CNC Mills and/or Lathes
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience as a CNC set-up machinist
  • 3-axis Mastercam programming experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, print reading, and mathematics
  • Must have tools, indicators, micrometers, calipers, deburring tools, etc.
  • Being a team player is essential to achieve success in this position
  • Must have reliable transportation to/from work location.
