About the position

The CNN News Associate Program is a 15-month editorial training initiative based in Washington, DC, designed for early career journalists. Participants will engage in hands-on rotational positions, gaining exposure to various news operations and developing their journalistic skills through networking and coaching with industry professionals. This paid program offers full-time hours and eligibility for benefits, providing a unique opportunity to jumpstart a career in journalism, although full-time employment at the end of the program is not guaranteed.

Responsibilities

• Support news coverage and show production in a D.C. CNN newsroom.
• Print scripts for anchors and operate the Teleprompter.
• Greet guests and assist live producers, show staff, and reporters on live shots and show production.
• Collaborate with digital teams on researching and writing stories for CNN.com.
• Monitor various sources, including social media and local news, to assist in newsgathering efforts.
• Conduct research at the direction of producers and desk management, including identifying video or digital stories.
• Pitch stories for various CNN networks and platforms.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field of study is preferred, or equivalent experience.
• At least one internship in a news environment and previous newsroom experience is preferred.
• Strong general news judgment and editorial skills.
• Strong writing skills and the ability to multi-task and make fast decisions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Computer literate with a working knowledge of social media.
