About the position

The Child Nutrition Program Assistant Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the local school Child Nutrition Program (CNP) within Baldwin County Schools. This position is responsible for ensuring the provision of healthy and nutritious meals, supervising CNP personnel, and maintaining high standards of food safety and quality. The Assistant Manager collaborates with school leadership to enhance student achievement through effective food service operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, planning, monitoring, and oversight of the local school Child Nutrition Program (CNP).
  • Supervise, direct, develop, and evaluate CNP personnel and designated staff.
  • Ensure quality and safety of school system food services.
  • Provide healthy, nutritious meals and food preparation services for students, staff, visitors, and community members.
  • Assist in preparation and service of food according to the written menu of the day.
  • Participate in and assist in supervising job rotation/schedule as assigned by CNP Manager or Supervisor.
  • Assist CNP manager in ensuring the smooth function of activities during meal times.
  • Assist CNP manager in taking inventories, making reports, ordering food, and following menus.
  • Demonstrate skills and knowledge in operation of and maintenance techniques for all food service equipment.
  • Notify the CNP manager when food staples or supplies need replenishing.
  • Assist in the general cleaning of the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Assist in storing commodities and other food and supplies.
  • Assume the manager's responsibilities in their absence.
  • Observe proper sanitation measures in preparing, serving, and storing food.
  • Observe safety precautions in the kitchen and related work areas.
  • Cooperate with the principal, CNP manager, and CNP supervisor in maintaining high standards in the food service program.
  • Work cooperatively with co-workers, teachers, parents, and effectively with students.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively with others.
  • Assist school CNP staff in interpreting the goals and objectives of the school food service program to students, teachers, parents, and community members.
  • Maintain adequate and accurate records and controls including personnel, financial, inventories, operational, and purchasing of food, supplies, and equipment.
  • Cooperate with health officials in supporting all local and state public health laws and codes.
  • Participate in and promote inservice training, conferences, and continuing educational programs for self-improvement and for other CNP personnel.
  • Maintain professional appearance and dress appropriate for school food service program.
  • Model and encourage CNP employees to observe high standards of grooming, safety, and effective work habits.
  • Use computer software/technology for CNP operations as assigned.
  • Engage in professional growth and demonstrate professional ethics and effective leadership.
  • Perform duties in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement.
  • Report potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
  • Respond to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  • Maintain and submit reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Properly use and care for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system.
  • Serve on school/system committees as required or appropriate.
  • Use effective collaboration skills to work as an effective team member.
  • Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Report absences and take leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by principal and/or supervisor(s).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in Child Nutrition Program preferred.
  • Knowledge of Child Nutrition Program guidelines and regulations.
  • Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  • Ability to use technology as required to perform job responsibilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to assist in the supervision and development of assigned personnel according to school system procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership, organization, collaboration, and planning skills.
  • Ability to possess and maintain food safety certification provided by the Baldwin County Health Department.
  • Ability to complete annual continuing education training as required by the USDA.
  • Strength, stamina, agility, dexterity, and acuity to perform job responsibilities safely and effectively.
  • Ability to engage in prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, turning, reaching, and repetitive lifting up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessary.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
