About the position

The Co-Controller position at OOCL is a pivotal role that involves sharing responsibilities with another Controller to oversee the financial control functions of the organization. This on-site role, located at 10913 River Front Parkway, South Jordan, UT, operates Monday through Friday with a one-hour lunch break. The Financial Control team (FINCON) is tasked with managing all accounting and tax activities for several North American business entities across various industries, including ocean carrier agency, trucking, intermodal/rail, and real estate. The team is responsible for maintaining and developing accounting principles, practices, and procedures that align with the company's headquarters. This ensures the production of accurate and timely financial statements for external stakeholders and internal reporting to corporate management, while also ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Key responsibilities of the Co-Controller include overseeing the general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and the development of budgets and forecasts. The Co-Controller will co-manage the performance of GL Accountants, Treasury Analysts, and Financial Assistants, while also assisting in their professional development. The role requires reviewing and approving general ledger entries and other financial transactions, ensuring the timely delivery of month-end, quarterly, and year-end report packages, and managing the external audit process. Effective communication with the team regarding accounting updates and issues is also a critical aspect of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Co-manage the job performance of GL Accountants, Treasury Analyst, and Financial Assistant (AP).
  • Oversee the preparation and completion of inquiries from the Vice President of FINCON and HQ FINCON requests.
  • Review and approve general ledger entries and other financial transactions.
  • Review and approve the completion and delivery of month-end, quarterly, and year-end report packages to the Vice President of FINCON and HQ FINCON.
  • Communicate with the team about accounting updates, issues, and information from the Vice President of FINCON and HQ FINCON individuals.
  • Manage the external audit process.

Requirements

  • Public accounting experience or school equivalence.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP/IFRS.
  • Customer focused with excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Knowledge of SAP.
  • Advanced level of Microsoft Excel.
  • High performance orientation and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude and strong desire for success.
