About the position

The Co-Director of Clinical Education/Assistant Professor position at Idaho State University involves overseeing the clinical education program for the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. This full-time role includes responsibilities in program development, student management, academic teaching, and engaging in scholarship and research activities. The position is designed for candidates with a terminal degree in Physical Therapy or a related field, and it offers opportunities for tenure or non-tenure track appointments based on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, and manage clinical experiences for the DPT program.
  • Mentor and teach clinical instructors in education principles.
  • Advise students in clinical progressions and placements, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintain significant communication with students regarding their clinical education.
  • Develop, organize, and deliver course content related to clinical expertise in line with the program curriculum.
  • Serve on program, department, college, and/or university committees.
  • Engage in professional and community service in area of expertise.
  • Develop and conduct a scholarly agenda to promote the advancement of knowledge in Physical Therapy.

Requirements

  • Terminal professional DPT degree or other doctoral degree.
  • Possess or be eligible for an active license in Physical Therapy in the United States and in the State of Idaho.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in fostering a diverse and inclusive educational environment.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness when working in teams.
  • Minimum of 3 full-time years of clinical experience and 2 years of teaching experience as a clinical instructor, site coordinator, or within an academic setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced academic doctorate degree (PhD, DSc, EdD, etc.).
  • Teaching and/or research/scholarship in the areas of neurology, geriatrics, or other specialties.
  • APTA Specialist Certification or other specialist certification.
  • Evidence of contribution to curriculum design and evaluation related to clinical education.
  • Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
  • Clinical Instructor Credentialing.
