About the position

The Co-Founder in Residence (Process Engineer) role at Deep Science Ventures (DSV) focuses on developing a novel technology to convert methane emissions into valuable products. This position is ideal for entrepreneurial individuals with technical expertise in bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering, or related fields. The role involves co-founding a new company that aims to address methane emissions through innovative bioreactor systems, with the potential for significant environmental impact and commercial success.

Responsibilities

  • Co-found and spin-out a new company focused on methane abatement technology.
  • Collaborate with the DSV team and current Founder in Residence to develop and implement business strategies.
  • Design and scale bioreactor systems for microbial cultivation, particularly for gas-fed systems like methane.
  • Optimize fermentation conditions for yield, quality, and consistency of end products such as protein, bioplastics, and biofertilizer.
  • Raise funds from early-stage investors and venture capitalists to support the new venture.
  • Lead project management efforts and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive technology development.
  • Utilize CAD tools and software to create detailed bioreactor schematics and prototypes.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent industry R&D experience in bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of cultivating methanotrophic bacteria and gas-liquid mass transfer.
  • Experience in designing and fabricating custom bioreactors from lab-scale to pilot-scale systems.
  • Strong understanding of fermentation types and their impact on microbial growth and productivity.
  • Experience in raising funds from early-stage investors or venture capitalists.
  • Exceptional command of English, with proficiency in additional languages considered a plus.

  • Flexibility to work in-person in a major metropolitan area on the East Coast of the United States.
  • Experience in forming strategic partnerships and commercial knowledge in manufacturing and procurement.
