At HNTB, we are looking for a Track Design co-op who will play a crucial role in the design and planning of railway tracks. This position is ideal for students currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary engineering program, providing an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of transportation engineering. As a Track Design co-op, you will work under the guidance of experienced track design engineers, contributing to various aspects of track design, analysis, and documentation. Your involvement will help ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains across different rail systems, including commuter rail, freight, metro systems, and tramways. In this role, you will assist in track layout and alignment analysis, taking into account critical factors such as curvature, superelevation, and transitions between straight and curved sections. You will support clearance analysis by evaluating the space between trains and adjacent structures, ensuring that train operations are safe and free from obstructions. Additionally, you will contribute to the selection and specification of essential track components, including rails, sleepers (ties), fasteners, and ballast depth, while adhering to project requirements and industry standards. Your responsibilities will also include aiding in the design of track grading and drainage profiles to ensure proper water management and track stability. Collaboration with track design engineers and other professionals will be key as you integrate track designs with overall project plans. You will participate in the preparation of detailed design documentation, which includes drawings, specifications, and technical reports. Furthermore, you will support considerations for track maintenance and rehabilitation by contributing to long-term maintenance planning and design optimization. This co-op position is based out of our Chelmsford office, and please note that relocation and housing are not provided for this role.
