About the position

The Co-Op Engineer position at HNTB is designed for students currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary engineering program. This role involves assisting various engineering teams with basic engineering tasks related to rail, civil, and drainage projects. The position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a multi-disciplinary environment, working under the guidance of senior engineers on significant infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineer teams in various tasks and duties.
• Assist Engineer with research, development, and design of projects.
• Assist Engineer with the preparation of engineering drawings and documents as assigned.
• Participate in field visits or client meetings.
• Assist in preparation of design documents, including track/highway alignments, drainage, structural design, grading, and estimates.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program.
• Understands engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles at a basic level.
• Shows proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to perform basic engineering calculations.
• Ability to organize information for use in drawings or other documents.

Nice-to-haves

• Completion of 2 years of post-secondary engineering program.
• Basic knowledge of a drafting software (AutoCAD, Microstation, OpenRail, OpenRoads, OR REVIT).
• Interested in track and/or railroad design.
