About The Position

The Co-op Student position at Brigham and Women's Hospital offers an opportunity for students to gain valuable experience in the Business Administration side of healthcare. This role is designed for individuals interested in pursuing careers in healthcare administration, medical practice, or related fields. The position involves providing administrative support to senior leadership and faculty within the Department of Psychiatry, contributing to various business development projects, and assisting with departmental marketing initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum one-year of college education in Business Administration, Health Sciences, Finance/Accounting, Psychology, or related field OR one year of related co-op experience.
  • High school Diploma.
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel and Outlook skills are strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, management, staff, and other customers.
  • Ability to effectively handle challenging situations and to balance multiple priorities.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Management with various business development projects including operational analysis, space allocation, and volume reports.
  • Manage calendars and schedules for management and faculty, including the planning and timely notification of meetings and appointments.
  • Assist with department Marketing initiatives including website management, social media, and acting as a liaison to the MGB Marketing department.
  • Manage the monthly department newsletter.
  • Maintain office files and systems to ensure the easy retrieval of documents and correspondence.
  • Assist with correspondence, filing, telephone coverage, routing routine mail, and other administrative activities.
  • Provide support and coordination for activities for the department, including seminars, conferences, meetings, and social events.
  • Assist with interview schedules and travel arrangements for potential faculty candidates.
  • Prepare and track expense reports for management and faculty.
  • Take meeting notes and distribute accordingly.
  • Order supplies and manage inventory.
  • Provide backup coverage as needed for CL service; paging physicians and updating patient lists for clinical service; working collaboratively with the administrative physician.
  • Work closely with Physicians to ensure their administrative needs are met.
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as needed.
