About the position
The Boys/Girls Assistant Track & Field Throw Coach (Shot Put/Discus) at Reno High School is responsible for coaching students in the Washoe County School District, focusing on the shot put and discus events. The role involves developing student-athletes' skills, ensuring their safety, and promoting good sportsmanship. The coach will work under the supervision of the Principal and/or Athletic Director, maintaining communication about the program and its activities.
Responsibilities
- Develop rapport with students and provide sound leadership.
- Be an example of good sportsmanship and apply discipline fairly.
- Ensure the general health and welfare of students and oversee their conduct.
- Maintain cooperation with the Principal and/or Athletic Director and other staff.
- Keep the Principal and/or Athletic Director informed about the program, including trips and games.
- Develop a system for accountability and protection of equipment.
- Foster good public relations within the school and community.
- Attend contests and practice sessions.
- Complete reports evaluating the activity and recommend improvements.
Requirements
- Equivalent to a high school diploma; preferred candidates are teachers under contract with Washoe County School District.
- Some experience participating in and/or functioning as a coach/advisor in track and field.
Nice-to-haves
- Possession of a valid Nevada Teaching Certificate is desirable.
- Certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is required for coaches/advisors.
