About the position

The Lead Career and Academic Coach at Pueblo Community College will assist the TRIO Upward Bound program, which supports disadvantaged youth in achieving academic success and preparing for postsecondary education. This role involves direct interaction with high school students to assess their academic skills, provide career readiness training, and facilitate workshops. The coach will also coordinate activities, advise students and parents, and maintain compliance with federal regulations related to the program.

Responsibilities

  • Specialize in the case management and training of all Upward Bound students at designated high schools.
  • Develop opportunities and provide training on career exploration for Upward Bound staff and students.
  • Facilitate hands-on workshops on secondary, postsecondary, and workforce readiness topics.
  • Assist students in identifying strengths, interests, and abilities related to majors and careers.
  • Initiate and coordinate the student advising process for new and continuing students.
  • Provide academic advising services to maximize student persistence in their chosen program of study.
  • Assist students in developing plans for high school graduation, college admission, and post-secondary completion.
  • Advise and educate parents and students during conferences on progress and academic goals.
  • Coordinate and supervise college campus visits, service-learning events, and cultural enrichment activities.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records for expenditures related to advising and service-learning activities.
  • Ensure compliance with federal TRIO program regulations and guidelines.
  • Train and co-supervise tutors at target high schools.
  • Assist with recruitment and retention activities and training of UB staff in career and academic resources.
  • Coordinate workshops and events for participants to gain skills in leadership, financial literacy, and college preparation.
  • Develop curriculum and deliver classroom instruction on relevant topics.
  • Establish and maintain contact with area high schools, colleges, and community partners.
  • Assist with the selection of qualified participants for the program and review application documentation.
  • Enter advising data into the Student Access database and assist with longitudinal data collection for reporting purposes.
  • Prepare and present monthly statistical data for staff meetings and reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent.
  • At least two years of experience in academic advising of disadvantaged first-generation high school students.
  • Knowledge and experience of secondary education systems.
  • Experience in delivering presentations in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and database applications.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality requirements in accordance with USDE and FERPA.
