About the position

The Head Women's Tennis Coach at Goodyear High School is responsible for promoting the educational philosophy and objectives of the Agua Fria Union High School District. The coach will provide leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining a successful program for student-athletes, focusing on both academic success and athletic competition. The position requires adherence to district policies and the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) guidelines, ensuring a safe and positive environment for all participants.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the freshman, JV, and/or varsity sports program for which the candidate has been hired.
  • Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes.
  • Oversee the overall supervision and development of all teams in the sports program if appointed as head coach.
  • Assign duties to assistant coaches in the sport for which the candidate is hired.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director in planning, implementing, and scheduling team activities, tryouts, practices, and game plans.
  • Ensure safety conditions of the facility or area where the sport is conducted and report any unsafe conditions to the Athletic Director.
  • Teach student-athletes sound and safe fundamental techniques of tennis throughout the season.
  • Foster ethics, good conduct, and sportsmanship among all participants and coaches.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the team before, during, and after events, including traveling with the team.
  • Manage the distribution, collection, and upkeep of uniforms and equipment, providing an end-of-season inventory.
  • Submit an annual written report evaluating the program with recommendations for improvements to the Athletic Director.
  • Assist the Athletic Director in evaluating assistant, freshman, or JV coaches if serving as head coach.
  • Verify that each team member has been cleared by the Athletic Director before allowing participation in tryouts or practices.
  • Report scores promptly to local media and AIA.
  • Hold pre-season parent orientation meetings to review eligibility, athletic code, team rules, and risk factors for athletes.
  • Adhere to district guidelines regarding budget and expenditures.
  • Comply with time constraints for practice and contest schedules, including holidays and off-season schedules.
  • Promote the school with pride and dignity at all times.
  • Complete grade checks of all athletes per district guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with the Arizona Department of Education for all academic programs.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Minimum of two (2) years head coaching experience at the high school level or head/assistant collegiate coaching level in tennis.
  • Participation as a player at the high school or collegiate level in tennis is preferred.
  • Must be trained in and possess valid CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must provide all required certifications prior to the beginning of the sports season.
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Card is required.
  • Demonstrate leadership and ability to work effectively with groups and individuals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
  • Must have a verifiable record of emphasizing academic excellence, positive attitudes, character, and sportsmanship for student-athletes.
  • Ability to promote athletes qualifying under NCAA Clearinghouse standards for post-secondary scholarship opportunities.

  • Experience in coaching at the collegiate level.
  • Additional certifications related to coaching or sports management.
