About the position

The Middle School Volleyball Coach assists the head coach in developing, organizing, and implementing the volleyball program while providing leadership to student athletes and volleyball personnel. The role requires adherence to all relevant rules and regulations and involves preparation for competitions after school hours, as well as occasional work on weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach in the overall supervision of the volleyball program.
• Help maintain, inventory, and issue all volleyball equipment.
• Promote sportsmanship and good public relations within the school and community.
• Ensure all student athletes have current physical exams and adequate insurance coverage.
• Participate in professional development through workshops and seminars.
• Report rosters, schedules, scores, and eligibility documentation promptly as required by the JPPSS and LHSAA.
• Communicate and cooperate with the school-based athletic director and administrator in charge of athletics.
• Perform all duties as assigned by the principal or appropriate administrator.

Requirements

• Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate and CECP completion or current LHSAA requirements.
• Possess a CDL class B or above with a P and S endorsement free of air brake restrictions.
• Meet all requirements of the Louisiana Department of Education school bus driver component.
• Employment with the Jefferson Parish Public School System as a teacher or administrator.
• Demonstrated expertise and knowledge in basic volleyball fundamentals.
• Professional knowledge of LHSAA and JPPSS rules and regulations for volleyball.
• Expertise in conditioning athletes for the sport.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous playing experience in volleyball at the college or university level, or minimum experience at the high school level.
• Previous coaching experience at the junior varsity, junior high/middle school, or other recreation activity level in volleyball.
• Knowledge and competency in first aid for volleyball injuries.
