About the position
The Coach for MS Athletics - Basketball at Battle Creek Middle School is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and promoting the basketball athletic program. This role involves teaching the fundamentals of the sport, ensuring student safety, conducting tryouts, and preparing athletes for competition while fostering a positive sportsmanship environment.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize and teach the fundamentals, strategies, rules and proper conditioning for basketball.
- Provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship.
- Ensure adequate supervision for all students involved in the sport.
- Instruct participants in safety procedures and the need to report injuries immediately.
- Conduct tryouts and select players for the team or individual sports.
- Assist athletes in perfecting their abilities and maintaining fitness for competition.
- Prepare the team or individual athlete for competition by developing plays and strategies.
- Inspect and prepare equipment and facilities for safety.
- Issue, collect and maintain inventory of uniforms and sports equipment.
- Reserve playing facilities and schedule practices and competitions.
- Ensure players are academically eligible to participate in sports.
- Comply with rules and regulations of the school and Minnesota State High School League.
- Communicate team, school, and district policies to students.
- Complete required reports and forms, such as team rosters and performance records.
- Participate in athletic awards programs as required.
- Contribute to the District's inclusive workplace efforts.
Requirements
- Knowledge of the assigned sport.
- Physically able to carry out the coaching duties.
Nice-to-haves
- Previous coaching experience.
- State coaching certification.
- CPR certification.
