About the position

The Coach for the TRIO Upward Bound Career and Academic program at Pueblo Community College is responsible for assisting high school students in developing the skills and motivation necessary for academic success and postsecondary education. This role involves direct interaction with students, providing academic advising, facilitating workshops, and coordinating enrichment activities. The position requires travel for off-campus events and professional development, and it plays a crucial role in supporting disadvantaged youth in their educational journey.

Responsibilities

  • Specialize in case management and training of Upward Bound students to ensure workforce and college readiness.
  • Develop opportunities and provide training on career exploration for Upward Bound staff and students.
  • Facilitate hands-on workshops on secondary, postsecondary, and workforce readiness topics.
  • Initiate and coordinate the student advising process for new and continuing students.
  • Assist students in developing secondary and postsecondary plans for graduation and college admission.
  • Advise and educate parents and students during conferences on academic progress and goals.
  • Coordinate and supervise college campus visits and cultural enrichment activities.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records for advising and service-learning activities.
  • Assist with recruitment and retention activities and maintain budget records for the Student Advisory Council club.
  • Train and co-supervise tutors at target high schools.
  • Coordinate workshops and events for leadership, financial literacy, and college preparation.
  • Establish and maintain contact with area high schools, colleges, and community partners.
  • Assist with the selection of qualified participants for the program.
  • Enter advising data into the Student Access database and assist with longitudinal data collection.
  • Participate in community/professional organizations supporting TRIO Upward Bound objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent.
  • At least two years of experience in academic advising of disadvantaged first-generation high school students.
  • Experience in delivering presentations in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and database applications.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality requirements in accordance with USDE, FERPA, and secondary school systems.
  • Ability to gather and present statistical data.
  • Ability to travel for training, conferences, and student events.
