About the position

As a COBOL Mainframe Application Developer at Kyndryl, you will be part of the Application Management Services (AMS) team, focusing on the maintenance and development of healthcare systems. Your role involves programming, documentation, testing, and integration of components, as well as providing support for production issues. You will also mentor junior developers and ensure adherence to change management processes.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, develop, test and deploy code on a mainframe platform (z/OS) based upon user specifications.
  • Analyze user requirements and translate them into technical specifications and programming solutions.
  • Provide technical assistance in solving hardware or software problems.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all development processes, including specifications, design, and user guides.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior developers, sharing knowledge and best practices in mainframe development.
  • Ensure proper change management for all requested changes, fixes and enhancements to production applications.
  • Participate in a 24 X 7 on-call support rotation.
  • Provide night and weekend Production/QA Support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work/practical experience).
  • At least 20 years of COBOL programming in an IBM z/OS mainframe environment.
  • Expertise in Job Control Language (JCL).
  • Knowledge of mainframe technologies, including CICS, VSAM, and CA-Datacom.
  • Production Support experience, including batch and online support, break-fix support and permanent fixes in production.
  • Familiarity using mainframe tools, including TSO, ISPF, SDSF.
  • Development lifecycle experience, from Developing to System Test to UAT to Production.
  • Familiarity with software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Accountability in actions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Understanding user needs and considering their experiences when developing software.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 3 years of programming experience in Healthcare applications.
  • CA Solve (or equivalent Incident Management system).
  • CA Jobtrac (or equivalent Job Scheduler).
  • Assembler.
  • Transfer protocol (e.g. NDM/FTP/SFTP).
  • EDI 837 specifications.
  • Endevor (or equivalent source management tool).
  • Experience with mainframe integration and/or APIs.
