About the position

The Code Compliance Supervisor position within the Animal Care Division of the City of Fort Worth is responsible for overseeing shelter operations, field services, and adoption centers. The role requires a strong background in animal welfare, customer service, and supervisory experience to ensure the humane care of animals and compliance with local and state regulations. The successful candidate will foster a positive workplace, respond to community concerns, and develop training programs for staff while managing operational efficiency and program evaluations.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a Positive Workplace by cultivating a team-oriented work environment.
  • Prepare and Analyze Reports on shelter metrics and operational efficiency.
  • Respond to Community Concerns regarding animal-related issues.
  • Provide Behavioral Guidance for managing animals with behavioral challenges.
  • Ensure Humane Care Standards for all animals in compliance with humane practices.
  • Enforce Animal Regulations in alignment with organizational policies.
  • Develop and facilitate Training and Development programs for staff.
  • Conduct evaluations of animals to assess their needs and determine appropriate outcomes.
  • Review and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for operational consistency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED with specialized training in animal welfare, public health, or veterinary medicine.
  • Four years of responsible experience in animal welfare, public health, or veterinary medicine, including one year of administrative and supervisory experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain Animal Control Officer Basic Certification and a State of Texas Euthanasia Certificate within six months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a municipal or non-profit animal shelter or veterinary clinic.
  • Knowledge of animal control local and State mandates/laws.
  • Comprehensive understanding of animal behavior and humane handling practices.
  • Certification or training in animal behavior, such as Fear Free Shelter Certification or a CPDT credential.
