About the position

The Code Enforcement Coordinator is responsible for technical and administrative work within the Code Enforcement Division, focusing on ensuring compliance with municipal codes and regulations. This role involves investigating violations, coordinating notices, handling citizen complaints, and preparing documentation for the Special Magistrate. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to work independently while maintaining a high standard of professional conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and oversees assigned code enforcement processes and ensures compliance with all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversees, responds to, investigates, and logs citizen complaints from general telephone or walk-in inquiries, including performing inspections and handling special cases to seek compliance.
  • Inspects and follows-up on approved temporary signs and temporary use permits to ensure compliance with conditions and the code.
  • Inspects the City and follows up with code enforcement officers to ensure compliance with various City codes and regulations.
  • Logs and follows up on elevated or complex code cases necessitating heightened review and oversight.
  • Investigates and documents violations of City codes and ordinances.
  • Processes courtesy and warning notices, notices of violations, and/or citations.
  • Prepares Special Magistrate paperwork including agendas, affidavits, and case history recaps, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Appears before the Special Magistrate as necessary to present case testimony and evidence pertaining to violations.
  • Follows up on fines and liens imposed by the Special Magistrate to ensure timely enforcement of orders.
  • Identifies legal property ownership or other parties to verify proper notice requirements are satisfied.
  • Prepares documentation for submission to City Attorney for imposition and release of municipal liens.
  • Performs administrative tasks to support the Code Enforcement Division functions.
  • Establishes and maintains activity files and prepares reports as needed.
  • Writes and ensures entries for Code Corner reminders are placed in the City newsletters.
  • Ensures that the Code Enforcement Division page(s) of the City Website and Intranet are updated with the most current information.
  • Maintains the division records including scanning and filing of documents in compliance with City and statutory requirements.
  • Involves frequent contact with the public; communicates in a courteous, professional and tactful manner at all times.
  • Establishes rapport with community groups and other civic organizations through meetings, speeches and presentations.
  • Conducts research for special projects as assigned.
  • Notifies Supervisor of any issues or concerns that need to be addressed at a high level.
  • Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws/regulations; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession and reads professional literature.
  • Represents the City at meetings, when requested.
  • Interacts with City Attorney in preparation of code enforcement cases.
  • Interacts with other City, County, and State agencies to enforce violations.
  • Provides assistance to other employees as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years' experience in code enforcement ensuring compliance with municipal, county, state or federal laws and codes pertaining to zoning, health, sanitation, building, licensing, criminal justice, or closely related field.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Must possess and maintain two of the four Levels of Certification from the Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of municipal ordinances, zoning codes, policies and procedures.
