About the position

The City of Beverly Hills is seeking two Code Enforcement Officers to join the Community Development Department. This role involves conducting inspections to ensure compliance with various codes and ordinances related to land use, public safety, and construction. The officers will act as liaisons between builders and the community, addressing construction impact issues and mediating disputes. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for educating and enforcing compliance among residents and businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce Federal, State, and Municipal laws related to zoning/land use, rent control, and property maintenance.
  • Respond to complaints and proactively survey the city for violations.
  • Coordinate code enforcement activities with other divisions and outside agencies.
  • Prepare and respond to correspondence regarding code enforcement issues.
  • Investigate businesses for compliance with zoning/land use planning processes.
  • Issue citations and prepare cases for court, including testifying as needed.
  • Inspect new sign installations and finalize sign permits.
  • Conduct sound tests of mechanical equipment for compliance with noise regulations.

Requirements

  • Associate Arts degree in liberal arts, public administration, criminal justice, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws related to land use planning and building code enforcement.
  • Knowledge of legal issues pertaining to inspection and abatement warrants.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and provide solutions to legal and technical problems.
  • Successful completion of P.C. 832 P.O.S.T. certification within six months of employment.
  • Successful completion of Southern California Association of Code Enforcement Officials Basic Level certification within one year and Intermediate Level within two years.
