About the position

The Code Enforcement Team Leader is responsible for enforcing city building codes and ordinances, investigating complaints and violations, and inspecting existing structures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role involves leading and coordinating the daily activities of the code enforcement team, providing training, and supervising staff. The position requires effective communication with various stakeholders and the ability to manage court-related processes for code violations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate daily work activities of assigned co-workers.
  • Assist with training and instructing operational procedures and proper use of equipment.
  • Supervise employees by problem-solving and providing input on disciplinary actions.
  • Operate and maintain equipment including motor vehicles, digital cameras, two-way radios, cell phones, iPads, and computers.
  • Respond to complaints and investigate city code violations related to building, grading, zoning, and permits.
  • Collect, evaluate, record, and preserve evidence; interview witnesses and prepare evidence for court.
  • Communicate and meet with property owners, citizens, developers, and city officials.
  • Review blueprints, plans, and permits; maintain records and correspondences of enforcement.
  • Set up and run courtroom functions for scheduled cases.
  • Train team members in essential functions and provide technical expertise.

Requirements

  • Vocational or technical training in construction, plumbing, electrical, or other trade.
  • Two years of experience in code enforcement, inspections, or a related field.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain GACE Level I Code Enforcement, Level II Plan Reviewer, and Level IB Inspector certifications within 1 year of hire.
