You will also engage in various tasks, including researching, analyzing, and adjusting patient accounts to ascertain balance responsibility. A key part of your job will involve resolving account liabilities by contacting insurance companies, ensuring that all financial aspects of patient care are handled efficiently and effectively. Responsibilities

  • Codes and abstracts medical records for reimbursement and statistical purposes under general supervision.
  • Performs qualitative analysis of records for deficiencies and performs related clerical duties as needed.
  • Researches, analyzes, and adjusts patient accounts to ascertain balance responsibility.
  • Resolves account liability by contacting insurance companies.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and write, understand and follow written and verbal instructions, and interpret medical terminology.
  • Ability to analyze diagnosis to determine Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) assignment according to Federal Guidelines and ICD-9-CM coding system.
  • Approximately six to twelve months' on-the-job experience necessary to become familiar with medical record coding procedures and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with physicians, hospital staff, and other medical records personnel in compiling data.
  • Analytical skills necessary to determine the adequacy of medical records and interpret medical terminology to code required data.
