The Coder (Hospital - II) at ThedaCare is responsible for reviewing patient medical records and assigning ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes for inpatient accounts. This role ensures compliance with ethical coding standards and regulatory requirements while communicating with healthcare providers to obtain necessary documentation for accurate coding. The position emphasizes timely coding completion and ongoing education in coding practices.

  • Reviews patient medical records for inpatient accounts.
  • Assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes to all accounts, following official coding guidelines.
  • Communicates with providers and clinical team members to obtain additional information and documentation needed for accurate coding.
  • Manages follow-up work queues to ensure timely coding completion.
  • Participates in ongoing education for ICD-10 updates and regulatory compliance.
  • Utilizes 3M 360 encoder for coding tasks.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of hospital day inpatient coding experience.
  • Diploma/certificate in coding: CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), COC (Certified Outpatient Coder), CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder), or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technologist).
  • Lifestyle Engagement programs such as health coaches and relaxation rooms.
