About the position

As a Coder II at UnitedHealthcare, you will focus on coding medical services in compliance with established guidelines and regulations. This role requires a keen attention to detail, knowledge of medical terminology, and a commitment to confidentiality and healthcare standards. You will collaborate with team members to ensure adherence to the latest coding rules and regulations while working in a remote capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze medical records, physician notes, and other healthcare documents.
  • Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM codes to accurately reflect the patient's diagnosis and treatment.
  • Ensure compliance with official coding guidelines and healthcare regulations.
  • Maintain a minimum coding accuracy score of 95%.
  • Participate in internal and external audits to ensure compliance with coding standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement corrective actions to address any identified issues.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher).
  • Active AAPC CPC (Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice) Certification or AHIMA CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) Certification.
  • 3+ years of experience in the healthcare industry, medical coding, and Risk Adjustment.
  • 3+ years of experience with HCC Coding.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency reading and interpreting medical coding rules and guidelines.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency utilizing resources and reference materials for medical coding.
  • Intermediate level of computer proficiency (MS Office-Word, Excel, Outlook).

Nice-to-haves

  • AAPC CRC (Certified Risk Adjustment Coder) Certification.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and practices.
  • High level of ethics, integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
