About the position
The Coder is responsible for timely review of patient records in order to identify an appropriate selection of codes that will accurately reflect the reason for admission, extent of care received, and level of severity of illness. The Coder is further responsible for ensuring that all data elements required for federal and state reporting are collected and included in the patient's demographic record.
Responsibilities
- Review patient records to identify appropriate codes for admissions and care received.
- Ensure all data elements required for federal and state reporting are collected and included in patient records.
Requirements
- 2 years working experience in coding inpatient, same day surgery, emergency department, outpatient diagnostic medical records, or adequate training in assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes.
- Demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.
Nice-to-haves
- 2 years' experience as a coder in an acute care hospital.
- Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms.
