About the position

Rapid City Medical Center is seeking a Coder to join their coding team, which focuses on compliance and efficiency. The Coder will be responsible for coding clinical and surgical professional charges, with the potential to grow into a Medicare Specialist role. This hybrid position requires both in-office work and offers a supportive environment that values work-life balance and career satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a detailed review of all assigned charges, ensuring proper coding methods are used according to CPT guidelines, ICD-10-CM coding, and payer rules.
  • Work with medical staff and compliance auditors to resolve coding issues and associated problems.
  • Communicate with providers regarding coding principles and payer-specific requirements.
  • Review non-covered claims to ensure proper coding of all charges and support other teams with coding rules and services rendered.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Certification with credentials from a nationally recognized organization.
  • Preferred minimum of two years of experience with coding practices.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical billing.
  • Knowledge of health insurance processing and ability to read and interpret an explanation of benefits (EOB).
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
