About the position

The Coding & Data Entry Clerk position at the Citizen Potawatomi Nation is a full-time role within the Health Services Department, specifically in the Business Office. This position is responsible for accurately entering patient information, diagnoses, and procedures into the RPMS software system using ICD-10 and CPT codes. The role requires a strong attention to detail and the ability to work closely with medical staff to ensure that all documentation is legible and appropriately completed. The Coding & Data Entry Clerk will abstract data from the PCC Ambulatory Encounter form or the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and will be tasked with detecting and correcting any coding errors that may arise. Weekly, the clerk will generate error listings from the PCC and Coding Queue, researching and correcting errors as necessary. Additionally, the position may involve performing other duties and projects as required by management. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients, providers, and other staff members. Proficiency in typing is essential, as is familiarity with medical coding standards, particularly ICD-10. The role demands a high level of computer literacy, with the ability to access and interpret PCC data efficiently. Candidates should be prepared to handle a large workload with demanding deadlines, as well as be seated for prolonged periods while performing repetitive tasks at the computer. The work environment is a health facility office, which may involve some lifting, bending, and stretching.

Responsibilities

  • Enter patient information, diagnoses, and procedures into the RPMS software system using ICD-10 and CPT codes.
  • Abstract data from the PCC Ambulatory Encounter form or the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Ensure legibility and appropriate documentation on the PCC encounter form and in the EHR.
  • Detect and correct coding errors as they arise.
  • Generate PCC and Coding Queue error listings on a weekly basis and research errors to correct as needed.
  • Perform duties relevant to the Electronic Health Record and view data in EHR as needed.
  • Complete other duties and projects as required by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 2-3 years of medical office experience is required; less experience may be considered with approval.
  • Training in medical coding using ICD-10 and CPT codes is preferred.
  • Prior experience working with RPMS is preferred.
  • Strong and fast typing skills are required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, providers, and other staff.
  • Skill in using a computer and knowledge of the software to access and interpret PCC data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Training in medical coding using ICD-10 and CPT codes is preferred.
  • Prior experience working with RPMS is preferred.
