About the position

The Coding QA Reviewer position is responsible for conducting quality assurance reviews for inpatient coders within HIM Central Services, LLC. This role is crucial in ensuring that coder quality reviews are completed throughout the year, including for new hires and transitioning coders. The individual will make independent decisions regarding ICD-10-CM & PCS code assignments, which are vital for determining reimbursement potential while adhering to compliant coding standards and corporate policies.

Responsibilities

• Performs pre or post bill quality assurance reviews for new coders and coders transitioning to new skillsets.
• Ensures all coders receive at least annual feedback on accounts coded.
• Assists the Coding Education Manager in defining and developing educational material to address trends found in coder reviews.
• Responds to coder questions.
• Consults the Manager, Corporate Coding or other available resources to resolve difficult codes and/or coding problems.
• Attends coding education as scheduled.
• Maintains productivity levels set forth by Community Health Systems while maintaining a 95% coding accuracy rate.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3 years' acute care hospital inpatient coding experience required.
• Experience with virtual desktop image, electronic medical record systems, encoding systems, and word processing and spreadsheet software required.
• CIC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT certification required.

Nice-to-haves

• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of related prospective payment systems, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology preferred.
• Experience coding complex cardiac and neuroscience procedures preferred.
