About the position

The Coding Specialist at Imagine Pediatrics plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate coding of patient medical records, particularly in the pediatric field. This position involves collaborating with the provider team to enhance documentation quality and compliance with coding standards, while also providing education and support to healthcare providers. The specialist will utilize their expertise in various coding systems to improve the overall efficiency and accuracy of medical billing processes, ultimately contributing to better healthcare outcomes for children with complex medical conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the provider team in the accurate coding of patient medical records.
  • Account for coding and abstracting of patient encounters, including diagnostic and procedural information.
  • Analyze and audit medical records to identify documentation deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluate diagnostic and procedural information for compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Assign codes for encounter submission and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a coding consultant to care providers and identify discrepancies in coding.
  • Research and facilitate plans of action to correct discrepancies and prevent future coding errors.
  • Communicate and provide education to providers under the supervision of the Coding Manager.
  • Submit charges to payors and manage accounts receivable as needed.
  • Maintain professional competency and meet productivity standards with a 95% accuracy rate.

Requirements

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Certification required.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in physician office billing and coding, specifically in pediatrics.
  • Experience with Telehealth and Behavioral Health preferred.
  • Understanding of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding systems.
  • Previous experience with Medicaid and commercial payers.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and efficient.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and Quality Measures preferred.
