About the position

The Senior Field Engineer position involves performing complex troubleshooting, specialized tests, inspections, and appraisals on electrical apparatus and systems. This role provides technical support to a region of service engineers and requires a high level of concentration and multitasking. The position operates with little to no direct supervision and is mentally demanding, focusing on various projects and activities simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex troubleshooting, specialized tests, inspections, and appraisals on electrical apparatus and electrical systems.
  • Test and troubleshoot complex electrical systems, UPS/Battery systems, and all types of power metering.
  • Lead large projects requiring specialized skills such as UPS acceptance tests and commissioning of larger DC Systems.
  • Supervise 'turnkey' projects and conduct detailed power surveys and electrical consultations.
  • Develop tests and inspections in new areas of field services.
  • Utilize AC/DC load-banks and power quality recording instrumentation for troubleshooting.
  • Perform installation and start-up services on all UPS and DC/Battery Systems.
  • Conduct complex engineering studies and write detailed reports at the end of projects.
  • Perform sales support functions and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Prepare written job proposals for clients, including estimates of man-hours and expenses.
  • Engage in client interface and business development activities.
  • Deliver effective technical presentations and write publishable articles as required.
  • Mentor and train other Field Service Engineers in the region.

Requirements

  • Graduate Engineer BSEE or BSME with six years of experience, or a graduate of an applicable Electrical Technical School or Military equivalent with nine years of experience, or a high school education with ten years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code and various industry standards such as OSHA and NFPA.
  • Special skills in power quality surveys, generation and co-generation start-up, and various electrical specifications.
  • Experience with UPS systems, drive systems, complex control systems, and medium/high voltage substation start-up.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical apparatus testing and theoretical understanding of electrical power systems.
  • Strong communication, supervisory, organizational, and management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and computer-controlled test equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in mentoring and training others in technical fields.
  • Familiarity with international standards and local jurisdiction requirements for electrical systems.
