About the position

As a Coffee Shop Barista at Hy-Vee, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining a positive company image. Your primary responsibility will be to review and fill customer orders efficiently while ensuring that food is handled safely and that the work area remains clean and organized. You will be the face of the coffee shop, providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members alike. This position requires a commitment to creating a welcoming atmosphere, where every customer feels valued and appreciated. In this role, you will engage with customers by greeting them with a smile and addressing them by name whenever possible. You will assist customers in locating products, loading heavy items, and taking note of their suggestions or requests to enhance their shopping experience. Your ability to work collaboratively with co-workers will be essential in ensuring customer satisfaction and fostering a pleasant work environment. You will also be responsible for maintaining the quality and freshness of food products, preparing and replenishing items as necessary, and managing the department registers. Adherence to personal hygiene and dress guidelines is critical, as is punctuality in reporting to work. This position may also involve secondary duties such as washing dishes, ordering supplies, and assisting in other areas of the store as needed. Overall, your role as a Barista will be integral to the success of the coffee shop and the satisfaction of our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store.
  • Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to the products they're looking for, securing products that are out of reach, and loading or unloading heavy items.
  • Makes note of and passes along customer suggestions or requests to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call, including taking customer orders.
  • Takes customer orders at the counter and works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Handles food in a safe manner and ensures the work area is always clean and neat.
  • Reviews the status and appearance of the food for freshness and ensures that an adequate food supply is ready and on hand.
  • Prepares and replenishes product as necessary and checks in product, putting it away and reviewing invoices.
  • Runs the department registers, receives payment, and makes change as applicable.
  • Removes trash in a timely manner and maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time, and performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Requirements

  • Less than high school education or equivalent experience.
  • Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
  • Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to deal with a few concrete variables and perform simple addition and subtraction.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions and write identifying information.
