About the position

As a Coffee Shop Barista at Hy-Vee, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service while preparing and serving coffee and food items. This role emphasizes maintaining a clean work environment, handling food safely, and ensuring customer satisfaction through friendly interactions. You will work closely with team members to create a positive shopping experience for customers.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
• Assists customers by escorting them to products, loading or unloading heavy items, and addressing customer suggestions or requests.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides helpful service to customers who call, including taking orders.
• Takes customer orders at the counter and works with co-workers to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Handles food safely and ensures the work area is clean and neat.
• Reviews the status and appearance of food for freshness and ensures an adequate supply is ready.
• Prepares and replenishes products as necessary and checks in product deliveries.
• Runs the department registers, receives payments, and makes change as needed.
• Removes trash in a timely manner and maintains personal hygiene and dress standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Entry-level position requiring less than 1 year of experience in a similar role.
• Ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions and deal with concrete variables.
• Basic math skills for simple addition and subtraction.
