About the position

The Cognizant Systems Engineer at Strategic Management Solutions, LLC is responsible for ensuring the operability of nuclear safety systems at various Department of Energy sites. This role involves applying systems engineering principles to support the design, fabrication, construction, testing, and delivery of systems for nuclear facilities. The position requires collaboration with engineers, operations, and maintenance teams in a dynamic engineering and construction environment, with a preference for candidates who can work onsite or in a hybrid capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Work with design teams to integrate strong system engineering practices in design evolution.
  • Manage requirements development and configuration management/change control.
  • Oversee interface and configuration model management.
  • Plan and manage deliverables effectively.
  • Review engineering and manufacturing deliverables, including documents and drawings.
  • Support the development and documentation of engineering plans, procedures, and workflows.
  • Execute and accept maintenance and testing processes.
  • Develop and maintain System Design Descriptions and Technical Baselines.
  • Coordinate preparations for readiness/design reviews.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5 to 7+ years of relevant experience in systems engineering.
  • Solid understanding of system engineering principles including requirements management and configuration management.
  • Detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of Commercial Grade Dedication is preferred.
  • Familiarity with nuclear material or nuclear waste processing technology is required.
  • US citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • A Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 4 to 6+ years of experience in design, construction, and operation of hardware and/or systems.
  • Certification as a Professional Systems Engineer or willingness to pursue SE Certification.
  • Previous Qualification as a Cognizant System Engineer in an operating nuclear facility.
