About the position

The COI Analyst will work within the Homewood IRB and Conflict of Interest Office, focusing on the review of conflict of interest and commitment disclosures to ensure compliance with policies that protect the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (KSAS) and Whiting School of Engineering's (WSE) sponsored research funds. This role is essential in managing policy implementation related to financial interests and conflicts of interest, supporting the Conflict Review Committee, and collaborating with various stakeholders within and outside the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Independently review and process e-Disclose disclosures of outside activities and financial interests.
  • Identify data needed to review potential conflicts of interest and ensure compliance with institutional policies and federal regulations.
  • Conduct compliance activities to ensure faculty understand and follow policies.
  • Use Visual Compliance to screen foreign entities associated with disclosures against proscribed or restricted entity lists.
  • Follow-up on system notifications from other offices to confirm the accuracy of the information and ensure disclosure is made, where appropriate.
  • Confirm current COI training dates and record them in eDisclose as needed.
  • Assist with the process of faculty Annual Certification.
  • Work closely with other institutional offices for complex COI cases.
  • Conduct supplemental research of complex disclosures and assist with preparing case write-ups for Committee review.
  • Provide training and support to faculty members regarding disclosures and policy questions.
  • Attend HCOI Open Office Hours for questions and concerns pertaining to conflict of interest and commitment.
  • Explain HCOI policies and relevant regulations to faculty and staff.
  • Develop recommendations for assuring compliance with federal regulations.
  • Occasionally conduct testing of the electronic disclosure system to identify problems and bugs.
  • Perform routine database queries and report generation.
  • Assist with WordPress website maintenance, including revisions and postings.
  • Provide minimal and occasional support for the Homewood IRB.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Two years of progressively responsible related professional experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior research experience or experience in a research compliance environment.
  • Experience in an academic medical center or higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations related to human research protections.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations related to promoting objectivity in research.
